Plainfield United Methodist
Youth Group
Who are we?
We are a group of about 8 adult leaders and 30-40 youth that
meet on a weekly basis to learn and grow together. We
believe in the importance of not only growing as Disciples
of Christ through: scripture, discussions, and activities,
but also believe in the importance of having fun while doing
it. We strive for an open environment that is welcoming to
all, but also realize that we all come from a variety of
backgrounds.
What does a typical night at youth group look like?
This last school year, Fall 2009-Present, has been a new
adventure for us. This is the first year that we have
completely split the group in half with the
Jr. High, 6th-8th grade, in
one room, and the Sr. High,
9th-12th grade, in another room. This split in youth
groups has been a wonderful time to look in depth at subject
matter that is relevant to that particular group. The groups
aren’t split up completely, however, about once a month, or
sometimes more, the groups come together for such things as:
game nights, mystery trips, group parties, and youth choir
rehearsal.
The typical night for each group often involves: a sharing
of joy’s and concerns, an activity or game, a lesson,
snacks, and a closing prayer. Youth Group meets on a regular
weekly basis, on Wednesday Nights, from 7:00-8:30, September
through the end of May. Over the summer, the youth continue
to get together, but it is not on a set weekly basis. Some
of the potential activities range from: group swimming party
at one of the youth’s homes, group outing to a concert or
ball game, a group outing to one of the local water parks,
helping sell snack items during the weekly Cruise Night in
downtown Plainfield, and a separate Jr. and Sr. High Mission
Trip.
Why join us?
The Youth Group at Plainfield First UMC is all about family
and growing together. It is a tight knit group of youth and
adults all striving to hold each other accountable and grow
together as Disciples. If you have further questions about
the Youth Group, or any activities related to the Youth
program, please contact the Associate Pastor by phone: (815)
436-9651 ext. 13.
