Discover Something New to Grow in Faith

treasure-chest-faithReady to do a “new thing?” Actually, TWO new things! Commit to two new things, fill out a commitment card and return it to the office, or contact one of the pastors with your commitment. You will then be placed under the care of one of the pastors to encourage you and help you fulfill your commitment. Here is the treasure map for kids, and a PDF of the following list for printing.

  • Read the New Testament (90 day reading) Plan
  • Participate in a multi-faith series to experience other religious communities (Judaism, Islam, Hindusim, Coptic Orthodoxy, etc.)
  • Serve on a committee or work area
  • Participate in an adult education class
  • Read from a devotional book or upperroom.org each day
  • Walk the prayer labrynth at Grace UMC in Joliet
  • Visit a home-bound individual or a nursing home
  • Serve at the food pantry
  • Participate regularly in worship with your family
  • Pick a small group and get involved
  • Walk in the Crop Walk on Oct. 6th
  • Serve at Feed My Starving Children on December 21st.
  • Assist in worship (read scripture, serve communion, etc.)
  • Join a musical ensemble
  • Write a letter to your senator or congressman encouraging them to take a just stand
  • “Like” the PUMC Facebook page
  • Invite a friend to worship or to a church event, telling them why your faith matters to you
  • Give a $100 to sponsor a youth for the mission trip to Red Bird Mission in Applachian Kentucky
  • Increase your pledge by 10% or commit to tithe / “first fruits living”
  • Pray before dinner and bedtime as a family
  • Write thank you notes to Sunday School teachers
  • Practice the “Jesus Prayer”: “Lord … Jesus Christ … Son of God … Have Mercy … on Me … a Sinner.”
  • Pray for the schools, teachers and students
  • Writing a letter to missionary – Sandy Raasch, Honduras – and bring it to church
  • Read our church newsletter
  • Call and talk to an old friend
  • Pay off one of your financial debts
  • Make a monthly family budget
  • Teach tithing to your children
  • Use VIM Ride to support mission trips
  • Volunteer to be a VIM driver to support mission trips
  • Practice twenty minutes of silence every day.
  • Write in a prayer journal
  • Tell the stories of our ancestors who had faith and courage to our children
  • Say, “Jesus loves you” to friends and neighbors once a day
  • Say, “I am sorry” and “Please forgive me” whenever it needs to be said
  • Take Financial Peace University in October/November
  • Count ten blessings everyday
  • Call or email people when you notice they are missing from church
  • Volunteer to chaperone youth events/outings
  • Participate in “Bread Upon the Waters” project by the Mission Committee
