The Volunteers-In-Mission teams work under the “umbrella” of the Missions Committee. During recent years, teams from our church have participated in trips to Haiti, Guatemala, Louisiana, Honduras and Bolivia, with four trips to Honduras. In August of 2011, we sent a team of young adults to serve on a week-long, international mission trip in Costa Rica. In the summer of 2013, a group of 14 young adults served on Eleuthra Island in the Bahamas. In August of 2015, a team of adults will return to the Bahamas to serve those in need.
A good part of the expenses for participants’ travel costs is covered by the VIM-RIDES-TO-THE-AIRPORT SERVICE. Volunteer drivers provide transportation to and from the airports for members of our church family. Riders give a donation equal to what they would pay for taxi or limousine service. Checks are written to PUMC with the notation: “VIMRIDES” in the memo blank. Jim and Jane Ferguson are the coordinators. They are helped by other drivers when needed. Our drivers receive no compensation for their services, and donate their time, use of cars, gasoline and parking fees to this project.
