Cycling Group

Fun, fellowship and fitness are the goals of the Cycling Group at Plainfield UMC.  Whether you are new to cycling or have been riding for years, we hope you will consider joining us!

The Cycling Group is designed for:

  • Men and Women
  • Adults of all ages
  • Those who enjoy riding their bicycle but wish they could ride with a group.
  • Those who want to explore some of the great bike paths around the area.
  • Those who wish they had a low-impact way to stay (or get) in shape.
  • Anyone wanting extra motivation to get off the couch and out on the road!

The specific activities for this group include things such as:

  • Trying to schedule at least one group ride per week throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Ride times may vary from week to week.
  • Learning safe on-street routes around Plainfield and routes for getting to various bike paths from the Plainfield area.
  • Learning how to navigate between various trails in order to create a longer or more diverse route.
  • Teaching basic bike maintenance and showing people what kind of tools and equipment they may wish to carry with them on their ride.
  • Publicizing biking events around the Chicagoland area that members of the group may wish to participate in together.
  • Setting various distance goals to complete throughout the year. These could be for a single ride, a given weekend, or a cumulative total.
  • Planning some longer outings where we ride for a while, have lunch together, and then ride back to our starting point.
  • Encouraging others in the church and community to join our group!
